Hout Bay Upliftment Program

In order to turn the tide for a fisher community where the fish stocks have dwindled to the extent that it cannot sustain their livelyhoods, new innovative options have to be looked at to create new job opportunities and better environments.

Interneuron's aproach has always been to enlarge the pie so there is enough to go around for all rather than all scramble over a small slice.

Projects have to be financially viable in order to be sustainable, and tourism and related industries are being looked at as the best alternate source of wealth creation for the community.
This however asks for a holistic approach and responsible development strategies.
Interneuron is committed to building a better environment by building infrastructure to support new local businesses in a safer, greener and tourist friendly environment, as well as supporting career training and youth upliftment programms to equip people for new work challenges.

The Hout Bay Waterfront Development Plan:
Interneuron has put together a team of top professionals and put in place a development plan whereby :

Private property and redundant factories will be bought and revamped into viable smaller industrial units to encourage new businesses and create job opportunities as well as encouraging less traveling to work in and out of the valley.
A financial structure has been put in place whereby profits from financially viable projects will overflow into a community trust. In order to channel this money into the community in a fair way, it has been decided to apply these funds (once they have been realised) by way of building facilities and infrastructure that will help to create business opportunities.
Further planning will be done in consultation with community NGO's and community organisations as soon as the finances become available.

The key criteria for the development master plan are:
Financial viability,
Gains to the community,
and
Aesthetic and Environmental integrity.

These three are of equal importance and discussions are in progress with the various rollplayers to work together towards a wholistic masterplan that will benefit all while preserving the special character of Hout Bay.

The project is at present awaiting an audit being done by Ernst & Young and SAASA around possible management structures and the master planning of the entire Harbour area.

Hout Bay is a world destination for rich tourists while for us, all this beauty is free ...but for how long?
"Development" is needed to bring relief
and new opportunities for people struggling to survive.
Selfish developments however will kill the golden goose
as the natural unspoilt beauty of Hout Bay is its biggest asset.
Responsible Development is needed that will
not only provide for the urgent needs of our people,
but enhance and preserve this beauty
for the benefit of all.

Also in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Interneuron put up all the initial costs for the site visits and architectural proposal for a complete new self sustained six faculty University Village in Kindu, a small town on the Congo river 400km from the eastern border of the Congo. This proposal came first in a competition organised by the DRC Government, for which entries were received from SA, Africa and Europe... a project that hopes to change the lives of many people in the remote war stricken and neglected eastern part of the country.
